Mar. 1st, 2018 07:16 pmHey. Real entry as promised!
Lets see. Oh, so I left off before i tired pole and went to the burlesque thing.
The burlesque thing was fun! A little sassy, but tbh a little tamer than I thought. I hung out with Sonnie which was nice since I hadn't seen her outside of the gym before.
Pole was... interesting. turns out climbing a pole is a surprisingly advanced move. and im mostly interested in climbing. my first class I was pretty okay at it. The second class... not so much. Additionally (since Im writing also about this weeks class) I pulled something in my neck in silks two days ago and I'm terribly sore. I have no clue how I pulled it. nothing exactly hurt-hurts, but i don't have full movement. I hope it loosens up soon.
Last Friday we flew out to Tucson, Arizona. We got in around 2 in the afternoon, so we had some time to kill and went to a brewery called Pueblo Vida. It wound up being our favorite brewery the whole trip. We killed some time there, and then went to check into the Airbnb. Our place was RIGHT on the line of Seguaro nat'l park, so we drove in before the sun went down to just check it out and take some pictures with the cacti. That night we got dinner at a mexican place called nanas.
The whole trip I kept going to bed around 11. Which I guess is midnight our time, which was till about an hour early for me. No clue why. Guess I was tired a lot.
Saturday we drove out a couple hours to Phoenix. We went to the music instrument museum which was 1) huge and 2) cool. They have music and instruments from every freakin country. It was almost overwhelming, but I felt you got your money's worth for sure. After that, we met up with Audra at Arizona Wilderness brewing. Man, Audra and I were close at jpusa but sort of drifted apart. But we had a blast catching up. After the brewery we caught some tacos and then we went back home.
Sunday we drove out a couple hours to the Chiricahua mountains. We had about a 10 mile hike planned that I was super pumped about. It is a place that has all these crazy rock formations because of volcanoes and such. About half-way through the hike Z is having a hard time of it though. Then, it starts to rain. THEN IT STARTS TO HAIL. It was only pea sized, but still obnoxious. I'd say 8 miles in, I was pretty over it too. But we made it. WE learned a bit about Z's limits that day lol. We'd done harder hikes before, but I guess since we hadn't in a while he was out of shape. Idk why it was generally easier for me. I mean, Im more fit, but I guess I also do a lot of DDR.
At any rate, that night we took a nice hot shower to warm up from the rain/hail and crashed. I think we got del taco for supper. haha
Monday we decided to give ourselves a break from driving and check out the west side of Seguaro National park. The side close to where we're staying. We did a couple hikes through diffrent parts of the desert on that side. I must say, I think the west side is much more stark. We also saw some ancient petroglyphs, which is cool cuz i love graffiti.
That night I met up with Abigail and a friend of hers at crooked tooth brewing. It was nice to see her. I actually hadn't reached out to her at first because I was worried after she unfriended me on facebook, but we were instagram pals so ... idk. i just figured i'd see if she reached out to me. And thank goodness she did. it totally tickled me and we talked a lot about deconversion and gossiped a bit about jpusa.
Tuesday we went to the desert museum, which is, like, part zoo, part botanical gardens, part museum. It was pretty neat. Its huge. We probably spent 4 hours there and didn't get to see everything. After the desert museum, we headed on over to Globe, which was a two hour drive out, to see Andrew and Amanda, more jpusa pals. They were out there because amanda's mom lives out there and they wanted to be close because her mom's health is poor. At any rate, we had supper and got to check out what they'd been up to and walk down the wash a bit. It seems like they both miss community, but also want to be close to family. I totally understand it. And, hey, they can always go back after a time if they so choose (assuming jpusa doesnt dissolve in the next few years...) I felt like our visit was so short. I wish I could have had more time. Oh well. Amanda was my roommate for, like, a couple years, so I feel a great closeness there, despite the distance.
Wednesday we went out to Organ Pipe Nat'l monument, which was a couple hours away (surprise, surprise). This was, mercifully, the last long driving trip. The car had satellite radio which is such a dud. I am surprised anyone pays for it. Its like, so its commercial free, and all these specialized stations, but they still play the same 40 songs over and over, it feels. We did, however, get to hear Chris Jericho talk about his favorite beatles songs tho, so I guess thats a plus.
At any rate, Organ pipe we were gonna do this hike I had picked up, but first we checked out this arch. Now we had heard there is a hike that takes you to the top of the arch (or, like, gives you a better view or something). We had finally recovered from our Chiricahuas hike, so Z was super into this. It was, in theory, an additional .5 miles to a .5 mile hike. And gods, after the flat part, it was just a scramble up some skrees. We never saw the arch again. We made it to the top, somehow, although a lot of times we had to stop and try to find the cairns. It was kind of scary. But then there was, what appeared to be, just this terrifying part, even though there were cairns. Z was uncertain. And I had already been scared but that was too much so I cried. But I felt terrible because "maybe the arch was just over this hyper terrifying bit".
Alas, we weighed our options (and my tears) and made our way down. Going down was terrible. And I bruised my ankle on the way down. Half-way down a scree, We see the arch. We had hiked way past the "close up" bit of the arch, but since there was just more rocks and trees behind it, it was hard to see. So we'd hiked way past what we'd wanted to see, but we did get to get up high, see a view of the valley, etc.
needless to say, we didn't get to do the hike i had planned.
We did get to go a bit further south to this little desert oasis. It was really interesting, So, this place, you drive directly along the borderwall. And its funny because youre on this little dirt road but on the other side is this perfectly nice highway. At any rate, there was this natural spring, and its in the middle of the desert. A real desert oasis. There were ducks and birds and this fish that were endangered, but only because they ONLY live in this little desert oasis. I wonder how they got there. It was neat to see. and we got to hike a little to see where the spring started. And all around its just sand and cacti and nothin. Very cool.
I was p beat from all that. We went to barrio brewing. and when we got back to the airbnb i crashed.
Thursday we went to check out the east side of seguaro nat'l park. admittedly, it wasnt as stark as the west side. it had some grasses and even shrubby trees. I did however get to see a cresting seguaro in the wild, so thats something. Z and I both sorta thought if we'd know the otherside was gonna be so... yanno, generally the same... we woulda just checked out this cave instead. oh well. we've seen a lot caves.
At any rate, afterwards, we went to a tamale place which was p great and went to a couple breweries. By the end though, my tummy was p full and I was ready to just go back to the airbnb.
Friday we flew back. We landed at 4, and Z had to go straight to the brewery. I just stayed home and vegged out on the internet.
Z worked Saturday too. I wound up running by hipster walmart to get some things and then meeting up with Miriam. We went to the Admirals game together since Z had to work. Admirals lost spectacularly. Oh well. We still had fun.
Sunday not a whole lot happened. We caught a lunch with Mike and J at the brewtorium. After that we went to Tins for the wrestling PPV which was fine, i guess. we got blondies for desert. Amys, the ice cream place, is apparently also doing baked goods. they were p good. we also have a coupon for a free cupcake, so we'll have to go again.
This week work has been busybusy. But mostly all week I've just wanted to veg out. I've neglected my chores a bit. But it'll be okay.
normally i dont make a point to write about what i've been reading, but I've been reading Kafka on the shore and its really fucking good.
Idk exactly whats going on this weekend. Tomorrow some friends wanna go to some breweries, but they were all ones i wanted to check out with Z and he's working, so i just might not go. I also would have to lyft since Z will have the car. idk. i havent committed to anything so we'll see.
Well, that catches me up. ttyl i suppose.
