what are you reading wednesday?
Jan. 1st, 2020 12:26 pmWhat have you finished reading?
A Dance with Dragons by George R R Martin - Wow okay I think this book is remarkably different from the show. Tyrion wound up becoming a slave and then joining a free company, Jon's death is different than the show and legit shocked me (as I was turning the page, i was like, isnt he gonna die...Oh. lol). Which, okay, show jon and book jon are pretty different. Book jon is so rigid, he is the embodiment of Eddard's "honor" crap but has no ability to have any nuance. He was trying to save some more wildlings beyond the wall, but they could barely take care of the ones they had already taken in. just brash heroics. Anyway, Dany flies off on her Dragon and gets found by the dothraki, all of that stayed the same, except Young Griff, the secret Targaryen and the prince of dorne like, try to steal danys dragons and obvs the prince dies but wow that was interesting and cool. oh also griffs peeps started conquering some stuff in westeros. But yeah, idk, i had 300 pages to go last week and I just made a point to finish this because I think I'd been reading this for about 2 months, with a couple weeks of a break in between. I'm now free lol.
Spinning by Tillie Walden - This is the second comic I read by Tillie and I like this book a lot more because it is a lot more straight forward. Its a coming of age/coming out of the closet memoir but all linked to her hobby of figure skating. It was pretty sweet of a story and I liked it, although, since its just, like, a memoir of her teen years, theres no good conclusion.
What are you currently reading?
The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars by Michael Dante DiMartino (Author), Bryan Konietzko (Author), Veronica Fish (Illustrator), Irene Koh (Illustrator): So this comic picks up exactly after Korra and Asami go into the spirt world for their vacation. Mostly its been touching on gay relationships in the Avatar world. Korra's parents are accepting, but also a little worried people may be bigoted toward her. The comic is fine thus far, but I think it could use some pacing help. Also, I bought the hardcover library edition which is fucking expensive, but it USED to collect stuff like artist notes. It doesn't anymore so I sort of feel duped. I may go back to the paperback smaller trades for the next Korra comic.
Happy 2020!
