What are you reading Wednesday?
Jul. 1st, 2020 09:27 amWhat have you finished reading?
The Puma Blues: The Complete Saga in One Volume by Stephen Murphy (Author), Michael Zulli (Author) - As soon as I felt like I knew what was going on, I was confused again. I can't figure out if this is corona brain or if it really was just confusing. I understood the greater themes of environmentalism, but there was also stuff about aliens? idek.
I Am Alfonso Jones Paperback – by Tony Medina (Author), Stacey Robinson (Illustrator), John Jennings (Illustrator) - The book starts hopeful. Alfonso is just a typical high schooler. Hes going to try out for the school play, going to buy a suit and see his dad who is getting released from prison after being wrongfully locked up for his whole life. but while buying that suit, the cops are called because someone thinks alfonso has a gun. it is a hanger. Alfonso is killed and sent to meet his ancestors, several others who have died from police brutality.
The book is a good for kids 12-17 to think about the things going on right now. Oddly this book was written 3 years ago, but feels like it could have been written/drawn yesterday, minus some outdated slang. All that said, its good for adults too and I have a lot of Thoughts about it that I'll save for my book club.
What are you currently reading?
The Rise and Fall of the Dinosaurs: A New History of a Lost World by Steve Brusatte (Author) - I actually bought this one for my husband because one of my DW friends was reading it and it sounded good. Thus far it is just talking about the world before the dinosaurs. I guess it was a super volcano by poland that caused the first extinction event.
