Comics this week.

Daygloayhole Quarterly #3 by Ben Passmore (Author) - nothing really left to say about this one. the art and story are surreal but i like it.
Sugar Town by Hazel Newlevant - This was advertised as a queer romance, and it is, but its a polyam queer romance novel, which doesnt feel as romantic to me. I am (generally) monogamous,so thats probably where the disconnect is. But it felt clunky and full of all the pitfalls all polyam relationships seem to have. It was short, it was sweet, but i dont think polyamorous romance novels are for me.
Sports Is Hell by Ben Passmore - Same author as the first comic. A surreal story, again, involving a superbowl riot, and how maybe its not a good place to recruit people for The Revolution. A separate group of Black folks are looking to star football players in hopes of finding quality leadership, but they turn out to be pretty stupid and not good leaders either.
Safari Honeymoon by Jesse Jacobs - another incredibly surreal book, in art and story, a two honeymooners and a guide explore an alien world. It doesn't really end well, but its more minimal. You have to fill the gaps.
Stages of Rot by Linnea Sterte - the corpse of a whale is rotting, and a surreal sort of narrative takes place. im kind of over surreal stuff at this point. i was mostly confused with this one the whole time, but it was pretty. This has great reviews so maybe I should try it again sometime.
Egg Cream #1 by Liz Suburbia - this was sort of a sequel of sacred heart, and it was pretty good. On top of that there's another short comic about weird dreams, which I think was just filler because its kind of sparse, but i'd've just bought it for the sequel to sacred heart. this isnt as good as that, but adds good context and backstory. it makes me wanna read sacred heart again.

Americana (and the Art of Getting Over It. ) by Luke Healy - A completely inexperienced hiker from Ireland, who is in love with the US, is hiking the entirety of the Pacific Crest Trail. Thus far he has almost given up when he gets close to Los Angeles, but has decided to stick it out. While hiking, he thinks about how much he loves the USA, how he wishes he could stay, and about how while most hikers are leftists, most of the folks helping them with water caches and/or "trail Angels" seem to be right wingers.
Ive never done a long hike like that, but I want to. It reminds me a lot of hitch hiking. meeting and re-meeting strangers, utter exhaustion mixed with complete freedom, road names, etc. it makes me wanna go travelling, even though its a pandemic so hitchhiking is probably out.
