The Secret Commonwealth by Philip Pullman - Lyra reads documents about a journey to a place where people are separated from their daemons. Lyra and pan actually separate often since they are at odds and can do that after the whole journey into hell thing. At some point there was what felt like a very anti /r/atheism rant about how reals over feels is bad which was nice. Lyra is kind of kicked out of Jordan for no real good reason.
