One Year Of the Pandemic
1. Did you catch COVID-19? If yes, when, and was it bad?
I didn't. I'm grateful I didn't.
2. Did anybody close to you catch the virus, or even die from it?
Several folks close to me caught it. Some of my friends are still having post-covid symptoms. Lara died of a "mysterious aggressive pneumonia" in February. But I still wonder how likely it would have been that she got covid, but neither her partner or mother did. So I probably dont think I know anyone personally who has died of covid.
3. Did you lose your job due to the pandemic or did your work situation change considerably? Home office?
I've worked from home for 8 years now or something. It was business as usual. work was terrible that first month though. people were stressed out because they hadnt worked from home before and took it out on all of us.
4. Have you already been vaccinated? If yes, with which vaccine and how did it go?
I have. I got the J&J. It went fine. i was a little restless for a few days. I kept feeling like i may or may not be coming down with something. Felt a little tired and physically slow. I felt normal after a week.
5. Has your mental health suffered due to and during the pandemic?
Oh man. Way worse! I started not being able to sleep even worse than before. I had to get back into therapy to help manage my mental health and help process some trauma that was coming up and ruining everything.
6. How do you judge the performance of your local and national government during the past year?
I mean, it was bad, i guess. Its Texas. But I also knew I couldn't change it. I had to sort of detox on the news a lot because there's stuff I can control, and stuff I can't. On the one hand, there was something nice about having the freedom to do what i wanted, but also frustrating that we all had to reign ourselves in. We could have done better. whatever. who cares.
7. What is the worst memory you will conserve from the past year? What made you angry?
Probably the insurmountable amount of death, grief, and fighting with my partner that has happened? Probably just mostly the grief and death. Its been a bad year.
8. And, if there is one, the best memory? What made you happy?
Animal Crossing New Horizons has done all the heavy lifting this year. It helped me stay close with my friends back home, helped me have "parties" and helped me have something to keep my mind off things.
9. Do you think we are over the worst period of this pandemic by now?
God, i think so? i hope so.
10. Is there anything you would have done differently a year ago if you knew what you know now? Did you, knowingly or not, incur big risks to catch the virus?
In the early months, we stayed inside, not knowing how it was spread. I would have allowed myself to go on walks/hikes/etc more. I had certainly done some medium-risky things. Probably the trip for Zs birthday being the biggest. I wouldn't have gone to Carlsbad Caverns if I had known that you couldnt hike out.
11. What about your body? Lost or gained weight? Illnesses of other kinds? Fitness? Injuries?
I gained about 10~15lbs, but I gained fat and lost a lot of muscle. I'm worried about if I'll be able to perform any aerial stuff once I get back to the gym. I've only in the last few months started exercizing again (DDR) and trying to smaller portion my way back to 145, at least. I mostly just want my clothes to fit and to not be overweight.
12. Did you lose or gain friends? Keep in contact with those you already had?
Ive been grieving and sad for so long that I worry I may have lost some? The good ones have stuck around. Also: idc if folks havent contacted me all year. shit's rough. its the year of jubilee here. we can all still be friends.
13. How did you spend your free time? Did you get creative? Learn new stuff? Read a lot? Write a book?
The first few months, I tried to draw again lol. I thought about picking up an instrument but didn't. I sewed a lot. And then I picked up cross stitch. I even finished something! Otherwise, a lot of reading, but thats normal for me. A lot a lot a lot of animal crossing, which kind of has a virtual dollhouse element, so it did help me get creative.
14. Do you have children? If yes, how did you manage everything, from homeschooling to having to keep them at home and deal with their desire to meet other kids? Did you have to seek professional help of some kind? How was the school situation in general where you live?
Thank god I don't have kids. I love kids. I want one even (just no pregnancy). But not during this fiasco.
15. What will be the first thing you will do when it is possible again?
It would seem getting a massage and then flying in a plane to Oregon to see the in-laws.
