What have you finished reading?
A Cat's Tale: A Journey Through Feline History by Baba the Cat and Dr. Paul Koudounaris - I would have read this book either way, but it was a terrible vacation book because I basically just cried for 3 days straight.
Dragon Hoops by Gene Luen Yang - Gene Yang is such an expert story teller. I was... unsure about a comic about high school basketball, but I was hooked. The pacing is very good, however They talk about an old coach accused of molesting a child. He softens the blow by saying it was "early in the coach's career" as if being young could explain why someone might assault someone. Additionally, yes it was acquitted, which can be stated like a fact, but then including how everyone "didnt believe it" and how he's a "good guy" is a bad look.
Look, Deshaun Watson (NFL quarterback, Houston Texans) seemed like he had no "character concerns". but it turns out hes a serial rapist. This guy seemed like a good guy, and could easily sleep with anyone he wanted, within reason, and minus the whole he's-a-qb thing (power dynamic). But he chose to assault people because he's a rapist that gets off on abuse and power.
Yang even seems apprehensive of including this in the story, and I appreciate his honesty. But when he chooses to talk about it, which I agree it needed to be talked about, I feel like he dropped the ball a little. but minus all that, which is a small blip in the book, it was still good, and a great exploration to why we love sports in the first place.
Snapdragon by Kat Leyh - I had this recommended to me by Cory's 11 year old daughter and she was right. i did love this. Its mostly a YA gay love story about Snap's grandma, but also a story about how there's a witch in town that cleans up roadkill. its so sweet, but its almost... I must be jaded because my first response is that there are few families that are so quick to accept their queer kids or relatives. Still, I guess it gets to be YA for a reason. Its very sweet.
I Dumped my Therapist, I’m Having a Panic Attack, and I Really Need to Cut My Fucking Hair by Kaylynn Kim - Hello, yes, of course i bought this because of the title. Its short, it could be a zine. But also A Mood.
That Full Moon Feeling by Ashley Robin Franklin - A witch and a werewolf go on some dates. Super cute and gay.
The Antifa Super Soldier Cookbook by Matt Lubchansky - This was a silly/fun read about what fox news watching parents think antifa is.

Save It for Later: Promises, Parenthood, and the Urgency of Protest by Nate Powell - Basically thus far its been his response to the 2016 election, how to communicate it to his children, and then the shock that Hillary lost. I say this as someone who was also shocked, but it seems only white people were shocked that she lost. it mostly thus far talks mostly about the importance of protest
