Sorry, I left Tuesday and I've been back since Sunday, but I haven't really had the time to sit down. The pacific time change sort of killed my mornings, but I'd been sleeping a little better. It seems like I do sleep better when I stay up a little later. Honestly, Z moving to "extreme first shift hours" kind of started me on the road to sleeping poorly. Hmmmm. thats something to consider...
At any rate, I didn't sleep well and decided to get up early so I could actually write.
Flying was pretty strange. I know I'm vaccinated, but its still quite cramped. The first flight was on a Tuesday night and was full, but not mega full-full. The return flight was much different. There were only a few open seats. Everyone was forced to wear masks, even over your nose, and Alaska was good about enforcing that.
We got in pretty late, and basically went to the hotel right away. The whole time we stayed with the inlaws, 3 times in hotels, we just got a double so there wasn't much privacy. but we were happy to spend time together. the whole point of the trip was to see them, but i would have liked some alone time too. At any rate, i slept terribly and wound up getting some benedryl because i was really cranky and hadnt slept in days.
The first day we did some hikes around the colombia river gorge area. Unfortunately, there was a rock slide and so a lot of it was closed. I was pretty disappointed in that. I didnt get to see some of the bigger waterfalls. Oh well, i guess. Can't change that. It was still a nice time. We spent that night in Salem. Dad was annoyed that the place we stayed didnt have free breakfast lol.
The next day I got to see Jodi and hike around silverton. It was, like, an 8 mile hike to 10 waterfalls. Jodi was there only for the first part, but it was so cool to see her. And mostly talk about how it feels leaving christianity and stuff like that. It was nice. The hike was really long though. We actually missed a first fall, so, like, we went all the way down to see it because there's no way im doing the "hike of 10 falls" and only seeing 9 of them. Well that one was a real dud lol It was pretty funny.
We stayed the next couple nights with the parents at their place in florence. We did a lot of exploring tide pools and the beaches and stuff. It was really nice. Oregon's coast, especially where they are at, can be very stark and rocky and beautiful. Oh, and we also saw some pitcher plants. They were quite stinky.
We drove back up the coast half the way on the way back to Portland. We stopped at a brewery in Portland and we got to see Anita. We got our last hotel, and there was another brewery less than a mile away so we stopped there too before we went to sleep. It was a nice time.
The flight home, it was a Sunday, so we were packed like sardines. I guess a lot of folks are flying again now that they're vaccinated. It makes sense I guess.
I've been home a few days and I'm much better mentally than before I left. Before the trip i was absolutely freaking out over the job interview i had. I am feeling better about it. I'll see Perry sunday and I'll ask him some questions hopefully. but i'm no longer having, like, panic attacks in public over it. so thats good.
I have been... really missing doing stuff lately. We played pokemon go downtown yesterday because I just... was really missing doing things. I have some pretty extreme "fomo" right now, but, like, no one is doing anything still. There's a part of me that worries there's a really fun... i don't know... show or party and I'm missing out and... idk. I've gone most of the year without feeling this way. Maybe vaccines have got me feeling like maybe this can change. I'm not dumb. i promise im not gonna go raw dog some clubs like some of my pals are doing. And i know that the possibility of another COVID strain is strong with a lot of folks not getting vaccinated. On the other hand, i imagine once its full blown summer i may start eating inside, assuming its not crowded, distanced, etc. idk its hard to know this stuff when I feel like it changes weekly.
Anyway, thats my trip and thats how i'm feeling. I guess thats all i've got going on for now.
