What have you finished reading?

Gay the Pray Away: Healing Your Life, Love, and Relationships from the Harms of LGBT Conversion Therapy by Erika Allison (Author) - This book took a pretty hard right turn into "woo" territory, and I'm pretty frustrated with it. I'm mad at Pray Away for doing this too. A lot of folks who have experienced religious trauma are happy atheists. Including a god-less option would be nice. Anyway, I took what I could from this. But I left a lot too. And thats OK.

Invader ZIM Vol. 5 and 6 by Eric Trueheart (Author), Dave Crosland (Author, Illustrator), Jhonen Vasquez (Creator), Warren Wucinich (Illustrator), Fred C. Stresing (Illustrator) - God, who cares? Muffins.

Bolivar by Sean Rubin - This is a cute story about a girl who noticies a dinosaur in new york city, but eveyrone else is too busy to notice. It becomes frustrating after a certain point. I sort of always get frustrated at these children's stories where the adults never listen to nor believe the kids. Its such a common trope too. I hope the newer generation of parents eventually makes this genre obsolete.

Fourteen Poems: Issue Two: An anthology of the best new queer poetry - I've been pretty into poetry lately. At least poetry written by queer folks. So I jumped and bought 3 issues of this. I really enjoyed them. Some of them stuck pretty well.

Colonel Weird: Cosmagog by Jeff Lemire (Author), Tyler Crook (Illustrator) - Okay, here's a bunch of comics from the world of Black Hammer, which is really, really good. Of course its good, Lemire is involved. Col Weird is stuck in the parazone, and seems to be an analogy for dementia. Its sad, and frustrating, and he wanders in and out of his life with no control. Heartbreaking, really.

Barbalien: Red Planet--From the World of Black Hammer by Jeff Lemire (Author), Tate Brombal (Author) - One of the best things I've read all year. Barbalien is a gay superhero, with a beautiful, tragic gay story that I can really relate to. He's afraid to come out of the closet, he's living a double life as a cop, and cops are cracking down on AIDS protests and busting and arresting gay spaces. Its sad, its frustrating, it take a little liberty with the history, but its just really powerful. As someone that was in the ministry and really struggled with fully coming out, and even now not always feeling safe to fully come out, but how our liberation and protection demand it whether we want it or not. Honestly, no prior Black Hammer knowledge is necessary here other than knowing that barbalien is a super hero and from another planet.

Doctor Andromeda and the Kingdom of Lost Tomorrows: From the World of Black Hammer by Jeff Lemire (Author), Max Fiumara (Illustrator), Dave Stewart (Illustrator), Nate Piekos (Illustrator) - Dr Andromeda got too close to a black hole, where time behaved differently. he came back to earth to find out that 18 years had passed, he had exposed his family to deadly radiation, and they both are dying of cancer. Its heavy, its sad, its heart wrenching.

Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy: From the World of Black Hammer Volume 1 by Jeff Lemire (Author), Tonci Zonjic (Illustrator) - I'm barely into this. Skull digger seems to be a kind of "punisher" type anti-hero. He saves a child... but really is keeping him as a prisoner and seemingly forcing him to become his sidekick.
