I read a lot of comics this week!
What have you finished reading?
Fourteen Poems Issue One - Edited by Ben Townley-Canning - Its still poetry!
The High Desert: Black. Punk. Nowhere. by James Spooner (Author) - I was really excited for this graphic memoir. And its kind of two things. Its part Punk For Dummies Vol 1 which... I don't need. At all. And its part a riveting tale about a young black punk feuding with local racist skinheads which I CAN absolutely get into. I can't quite tell who the demographic for this is, but I thought it was good. The beginning is slow, but it picks up and gets good, minus the occasional go vegan/edge sermons. At least it gets that punk is about rebelling against oppressive authorities. Not wearing swastikas because its edgy and sid vicious did it.
The Last Lesbian Bar in the Midlands by Cleo Henry - its poetry! Again!
Crowded, Volume 3 (Crowded, 3) by Christopher Sebela (Author), Ro Stein (Artist), Ted Brandt (Artist), Triona Farrell (Artist) - my favorite disaster sapphics are back with the CoNCLUSION to this series. Look. the art is amazing, the premise is phenomenal (gig-economy bad), and the characters are so fucking messy and everyone falls for each other and its great. Probably the best new series and im sad its already over.
Deadly Class, Volume 11: A Fond Farewell (Deadly Class, 11) - I'm frustrated that they're dragging out the end to two trades. But here we are.
Heathen, Vol. 3 (3) (Heathen, 3) Paperback – September 22, 2020
by Natasha Alterici (Author), Ashley Woods (Illustrator) - Hell yeah, kill god. This series is over too. It felt maybe rushed at the end, but I didn't mind.
The Street Angel Gang by Jim Rugg (Author, Artist), Brian Maruca (Author) - I've had my eye on this series because the art is amazing, and yes, the art is amazing. premise is whatever, but who cares. The art rules and inspires me.
What are you currently reading?
The Women's House of Detention: A Queer History of a Forgotten Prison by Hugh Ryan (Author) - I haven't even opened this yet. Its the next book club book.
