What are you currently reading?

The Women's House of Detention: A Queer History of a Forgotten Prison by Hugh Ryan (Author) - In the 30s and early 40s, homosexuality wasn't exactly encouraged, but people weren't violently homophobic. It was the red scare in the 50s which also became the lavender scare. You can see this with the various queer prisoners at the jail. The social workers really try to discourage and separate the women in relationships with each other.

This book is still kind of a slog. It never finds its rhythm. But it's not bad. Definitely won't finish it in time for the book club meeting tomorrow though.

And yes yes, i have a longer entry coming. i was just trying to get caught up on my DW reading page before I updated.

It sounds interesting. But it's stressful reading books that are about interesting things but not very well-written.

The author isnt exactly the problem. We only have so much information on prisoners from 50~80 years ago. So a lot of these stories start to grip you, and then it ends like "they closed the file and we couldnt find out what happened." which man. NOT A GOOD END lol

We're starting to get to a part in the book where the prisoners are still alive and can tell their own stories, so I think it should pick up here.
