Finishing up my library comics before I get more~ (real post coming soonish, hopefully)
What have you finished reading?
All About Love: New Visions by bell hooks (Author) - despite the middle dragging on, this was an absolute delight to read and ended on a very strong note. I feel like I should come back to this book often.
A Pros and Cons List for Strong Feelings by Will Betke-Brunswick - a family represented by penguins tells a heartwrenching tale of the mother's cancer and subsequent passing while the author starts coming out as trans.
Run: Book One by John Lewis (Author), Andrew Aydin (Author), L. Fury (Illustrator), Nate Powell (Illustrator) - Its a shame John Lewis passed before this comic completed. Taking place right after March, it touches into Lewis wanting to and ultimately running for office.
What are you currently reading?
Emergent Strategy: Shaping Change, Changing Worlds by Adrienne Maree Brown - I'm past Vee this time, and the last chapter was on restorative justice. I... am not exactly convinced. I still think theres a need to just drop rapists, murderers, etc into the deep alaskan wilderness and let them die. But it was well written and got the gears turning.
Redbone: The True Story of a Native American Rock Band by Christian Staebler (Author), Sonia Paoloni (Author), Thibault Balahy (Illustrator) - So I only recently learned Redbone even existed, so I know nothing about their AIM activism. But I'm sure it'll be good. I've only read the blurb on the back though. LAND BACK!

Date: 2023-08-24 04:32 am (UTC)From:This is a big "show me" for me... Some damaged people are not going to be restored through a community circle, and will absolutely act in anti-social ways again if not given a shit-ton of opportunity. Which would be nice to give, but you know, I'll wait for that FIRST and then we talk about abolition...
