Hey hey. Made it out to capitol reef, not thanks to my in laws who forgot to pay the phone bill lol. Thankfully I had some offline maps saves because that coulda gotten dicey. It’s all paid up and normal now lol

We grabbed breakfast at a bakery in Moab that did great baked goods. Then we hit the road. We went to goblin valley state park on the way to capitol reef. Goblin valley had all these cool hoodoos that look like castles and monsters and stuff. The goblin area didn’t have any trails, just sort of climb around as you’d like. It was a lot of fun and we found naturally occurring geodes!!!!! I think they’re quartz and iron and maybe something else? I’ll have to post them on reddit. I was afraid to ask the park rangers cuz they might not let me keep them.

We drove out to capitol reef and did some scenic drives and hiked down capitol gorge. It was really cool. Tomorrow we’re planning on doing this drive around the cathedral area. And maybe some other hikes If we have the time. Then tomorrow night we’ll have to figure out what we’re doing. There was a hot spring trail on the way to slc. But maybe we won’t do that and do some extra capitol reef stuff instead. There’s a lot here.

In hind sight I wish we did one less day in Moab but like there’s no way to know.

We tried to do some star gazing tonight but there were too many clouds. Maybe tomorrow.

We have to get up early tomorrow which I’m not exactly pumped about but 🤷🏻‍♀️ We have such little daylight we really need to get moving.

Well I think that’s it for now. Hopefully the 4wd drive into the cathedral area goes well. I mean. I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Ok talk to y’all tomorrow.

Today we did the cathedral valley drive in capitol reef.

The first part of the drive you ford a fucking river. We get to the river. And it’s a drop off. And the river is moving!! But it’s only about a foot tall. And you just go down a little and then back to shore. But man it was so spooky!! Truck month!!!!

We drove through some really cool geology and did some hikes to a view of the temple of the sun and moon. And we did a hike through the cathedral too. There was a thing called glass mountain that was an entire hill made of selenite (moonstone) which is really cool! The formations were just really cool. We got out around the golden hour and missed sunset at the sunset point. But we still had light and got some nice shots. All in all we did like 7 miles of hiking.

Tomorrow we leave. Which is sad! capitol reef is cooler than we thought it was gonna be and there’s a bunch of things I wish we could check out. Oh well. One lifetime isn’t enough to see it all anyway.

Tomorrow we’re being ambitious. If all goes according to plan we’ll check out chimney rock and these big trees, do a geology talk, and do hickmans natural bridge hike which is 2 miles. Hopefully get out of here by 11 or 12 and drive 3 hours and do a 4 mile hike to a hot spring. Enjoy the hot spring but get out of there before the sun sets (which is like 530. Ugh) and then make it to slc.

I reallllly doubt we can do this all. But I guess you’ll find out tomorrow.

The day after tomorrow we fly back home. I’m not necessarily ready for vacation to be over!! Oh well I guess. I took Monday off from work which was smart.

Oh and we saw a kangaroo mouse during the sunset. And it kept popping up and oh my god it is so cute I am literally dead.

Welp. Ttyl!
