what are you reading wednesday?

The Spire by Simon Spurrier (Author), Andre May Jeff Stokely (Illustrator) - This is sort of a murder mystery set in a fantasy/sci-fi world. Honestly the first half of this comic, I really had no clue what was going on. I still dont exactly understand who did the initial murder? The main character is a lesbian and art is pretty though.
The Eternal Smile: Three Stories by Gene Luen Yang (Author), Derek Kirk Kim (Illustrator) - Three short stories. The first one was pretty interesting. it was about someone living in a fantasy world but really just escaping reality. but the other two were also meta and it wasnt as interesting anymore. I dont think meta comics are very groundbreaking anymore anyway.
Gad Beck: Gay. Jewish. Nazi fighter. by Dorian Alexander (author) and Levi Hastings (artist) - I got these single comics because im a fan of Levi's art. This one is about a German Jew in WW2. It was pretty interesting. I had never heard of him.
The Gay Blood Ban by Josh Trujillo (author) and Levi Hastings (artist) - another short single comic about the AIDS crisis and the incredibly stupid gay blood ban.
Washington’s Gay General by Josh Trujillo (author) and Levi Hastings (artist) - another little single short boy about a general in the american revolution who was gay. its a little too rahrah the troops for my taste, but i had no clue there was a gay general in the american revolutionary war.
Declaration by Josh Trujillo (author) and Levi Hastings (artist) - and one last single one, we're still in the american revolution but its just two gay lovers. its short and sweet. just them waxing poetic about what the revolutionary war could mean for them and their relationship.
Kid Gloves: Nine Months of Careful Chaos by Lucy Knisley (Author, Illustrator) - This one was on my list after I read Relish and really liked it. This is just a comic memoir about the authors pregnancy. It was honestly pretty interesting. She had a troublesome pregnancy, so it made it that much more interesting. The author tries to be mindful of trans bodies, but occasionally uses "women" language when, yanno, not all women have uteruses. Still, the effort is something.
Get Naked by Steven T. Seagle (Author), Mads Ellegard Skovbakke (Artist), Emei Olivia Burell (Artist), Tina Burholt (Artist), Patricia Amalie Eckerle (Artist), Christopher Hammer (Artist), Andrada-Aurora Hansen (Artist), Rebekka Davidsen Hestbaek (Artist), Hope Hjort (Artist), Angelica Inigo Jorgensen (Artist), Bob Lundgreen Kristiansen (Artist), Silja Lin (Artist), Sim Mau (Artist) - This is a single story, but drawn by multiple artists (lol) about public nakedness and how the author was really upset about it. Somewhere around when I became a teen i stopped caring about being naked even in non-sexual situations. this might as well be locker rooms- the book. it was fine. felt a little repetitive at the end.
Bloom by Kevin Panetta (Author), Savanna Ganucheau (Illustrator) - This was my favorite thing I read this week. Its a sweet coming of age gay romance, and the tension and pacing is really, really good. The characters are well rounded and it feels like theyre actually falling in love. Basically Ari is done with school and doesnt really know what he wants but he's thinking about moving out. Then Hector moves into town and starts working at his father's bakery. I don't know that I loved the ending, necessarily, but I loved the romance.

Isola by Brenden Fletcher (Author), Karl Kerschl (Author, Artist), Msassyk (Artist) - This seems to be a soldier of the queens guard protecting her queen who was magically turned into a Tiger. This world seems really well fleshed out and the art is beautiful. people love poaching tigers in this world and the queen was just captured.
