What are you reading Wednesday?
Dec. 30th, 2020 07:25 amWhat have you finished Reading?
Avatar, The Last Airbender: The Shadow of Kyoshi (The Kyoshi Novels) by F. C. Yee (Author), Michael DiMartino (Contributor) - I didn't mean to run through this book as quickly as I did. But its good. Avatar Kyoshi does a bunch of faux pas at this firenation ball, and drives a wedge in an already dubious claim to the throne from the firelord's half brother. Yun comes and disgraces the fire lord further, so they chase after Yun, Kyoshi deal's with her hangups about avatar kuruk. Honestly, Kuruk stole the show, and the big twists in this book, but both the Kyoshi books are great if you're an avatar fan.
Middlewest Book Three by Skottie Young (Author), Jorge Corona (Artist), Jean-Francois Beaulieu (Artist) - I'd been holding off on reading this book because its about childhood abuse and trauma. The writer, I think, must be Gen X, because he has a hard time taking this seriously, sometimes, but the... traumatizing parts of this book are written terrifyingly well. I'm assuming the author has some childhood trauma they're processing through this book. I hated the ending.
What are you currently reading?
Monstress Volume 5 by Marjorie Liu (Author), Sana Takeda (Artist) - Because there's always, like, 6 months between trades, I'm always confused by the more subtle political stuff in this comic. Once its over, I'm going to have to re-read it all.
=====
Since this is the last WAYRW of the year, lets wrap it up. it looks like I've read 127 books this year (counting Monstress, which is still in progress). 21 book-books, and 106 comics. I didn't read as much as I wanted this year, because my attention span was kind of shot. My favorite book this year was We Are Everywhere: Protest, Power, and Pride in the History of Queer Liberation by Matthew Riemer and Leighton Brown
