Greetings from dinoland
Oct. 27th, 2019 02:22 pmHey! I’m in Utah! And I thought I’d give an update since today the weather is really crummy so we can’t go hiking like we wanted.
Utah is my 42nd state so I have 7 more to go I think: Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, Alabama, Florida, Delaware, New Jersey.
I also need to do Georgia, South Carolina, and New York if you don’t count airport layovers which would mean I have 10 left.
Anyway yesterday I was flustered In the airport because I was carrying two backpacks and my leather jacket and I needed to tie my shoes but couldn’t. I joked that I didn’t want to tie my shoes anyway. And this sweet woman tired my shoes for me? I insisted she didn’t have to and she just continued to insist. I am simultaneously honored but also feel anxiety about it? Like embarrassed or bad? Now when I put on I boots I feel bad? But really it was a sweet gesture. I’ll get over it but it was weird and I wanted to write it down. Obviously I thanked her. She was very sweet.
Anyway we got into Salt Lake City and our rental car was across town. Somehow a 10 minute lyft was 30 bucks. But public transit would have taken 50 minutes. Ugh. Anyway. We got our truck. Our smaller truck wasn’t available so we got a bigger truck. It’ll suck for gas mileage but whatever and we drove out to vernal.
Now we’re on like 4 hours of sleep but we checked out the dinosaur national monument and got to see the Dino quarry. Basically a smelly river with a bunch of Dino’s got pushed up by the Rocky Mountains. They found just 10 something complete dinosaurs and then left the hodge podge of fossils just in the ground and built a thing around it. It’s cool. We did a shot hike to see some fossils and petroglyphs but the dinosaur bones were the coolest.
Today we were gonna go to the other side of the park but it was snowing hard and sticking to the roads. We decided it was better just to be safe. It’s not fun to hike when it’s cold and windy and snowy anyway.
So today we just pictures of all the novelty Dino signs around here. Our entire trip is basically in the “Dino diamond!” Yay! Check out my Instagram to see pictures in real time.
At any rate that’s it for now. We’re just gonna stay in and watch football at this point.
